Rigid board wine boxes are the workhorse of wine gifting. You get the clean lines of a solid box without the weight and cost of wood. Jialan builds them on greyboard, 1200 g minimum, faced with specialty paper. That combination gives the box its stiffness and lets the print carry the brand.
Most buyers come to us with a bottle and a deadline. They want a box that will survive a courier van, look right on a shelf, and not cost more than the wine inside. You'll see a full range of structures in this category. Some fold flat, some ship assembled. Some hold a single bottle, others a six bottle case. What they share is how we control the fit and the finish.
Picking a structure
Start with how the box travels. A foldable magnetic closure box ships flat and assembles in seconds, which cuts freight and warehouse space. A rigid lid-and-base box ships assembled and feels heavier in the hand. If your wine goes through a retail display, the lid-and-base wins. If it goes by post, foldable makes more sense.
Then match the insert to the bottle. A velvet tray looks premium but adds cost. EVA foam is lighter and holds the bottle tight. Moulded pulp is the budget option and reads eco-friendly. We hold the bottle at four points, never by the neck or shoulder alone. That rule applies to every insert in this category.
Don't overbuild. If the box holds a 30 dollar wine, a double-door rigid box with magnetic closure is probably not worth the money. A flap-top cardboard box with a ribbon handle does the same job for less. Buyers who know their price point usually end up in the right structure fast. Ask us to quote two options if you're unsure.

Can you make a rigid board wine box that looks like wood?
Yes, that's our faux wood range. We print a wood grain on specialty paper and laminate it to greyboard. It gives you the look of a wooden crate at about a third of the weight and less than half the cost. The structure is the same rigid board build, so it still passes our drop and top load checks.
What's the smallest run you can do for a custom rigid board wine box?
We keep flexible MOQ for custom orders. The structure and finishing affect the number more than the box style. A simple flap-top box with one colour print will be easier to run in a small batch than a double-door rigid box with magnetic closure and foil stamping. How do you make sure the bottle won't rattle inside the box?
The insert is cut to the bottle profile, not just the bottle diameter. We hold the bottle at four points: two on the body, one at the shoulder, one at the base. Then we shake the loaded box for 10 seconds, tilt it 45 degrees, and invert it. If there's any movement, the insert is adjusted before mass production.
What we control
Greyboard is the core. We use 1200 g minimum for wine boxes, 1400 g recommended for spirits. Facing paper is 157 g minimum specialty or coated. No recycled greyboard, no high-moisture paper. That keeps the box from warping in a cellar or a hot container.
Insert fit is the first thing buyers check. Our control tolerance is plus or minus 1 mm on the insert, plus or minus 2 mm on the box body. We test a loaded box by shaking it for 10 seconds, tilting it 45 degrees, and inverting it. If the bottle moves, the insert gets reworked before we ship. Colour control starts with Pantone matching and a first-article approval. Black, deep blue and burgundy are the hardest to hold, so we sample more often on those runs. Before anything leaves the factory, our in-house checks include a 1.2 m six-face drop test with the bottle loaded, a 40 kg top load for 24 hours, and a vibration run that simulates truck and sea freight. No internal movement is allowed.
